DTS WEEK 8: Biblical Worldview

What is worldview? What shapes somebody’s worldview? These are questions all of humanity ponders at one point or another. As followers of Christ, our questioning becomes a bit more focused in on how our worldview becomes shaped by the bible and the world around us. This week, our Fall DTS students have Caleb Ives here teaching on having a biblical worldview in this day and age where much of our worldview is influenced by media and the notion that truth is what we choose it to be. He also emphasized the importance of our understanding of who God is being grounded in the solidity of scripture and not just created by our emotional experiences with God. Both are beautiful and important, but they cannot exist sustainably without the other.

We cannot make God known unless we know him. And, we get to know him through our choice of pursuit. He is everywhere, all around us. In the very nature we are surrounded by and wrapped in the revelation from our friends. Having this holy book at our fingertips tends to be something we take for granted. The bible carries the divine power to change the neurological pathways in our brain. It heals the wounds in our heart and redeems our past. We see and know this script is more than just words on a page but that tension between our flesh and spirit grows so strong as we go to sit and read this book. This tension only further proves the power in scripture and why the enemy is so adamant about convincing us we can put off knowing the truth it holds. In this quick, noisy swirl of life we live in, it is incredibly crucial that we find discipline in pursuing the understanding of the bible and our God who inspired it.

Some of our staff and students favorite quotes from Caleb are shared below:

“Scripture without Jesus leads to dead and lifeless religion. Jesus without scripture can lead to despair and a misunderstanding of who he is.” // “A form of idolatry is worshiping God the way I want to, not the way he demands.” // “Repentance isn’t failure, it’s faithfulness.” // “Jesus should transform how you relate to the Bible because He is the life of the scriptures.”
