Eyes of the Missionary - a poem on stories in our eyes

in the eyes of the missionary

a twinkling ember

what glow is this

that burns away

lingering fear

doubt that chokes

and a heart of stone

in the eyes of the missionary,

a heavy rain

what storm is this

that roars of surrender

and goodbyes

of loss

and longing

for hope restored

in the eyes of the missionary,

a fragrant melody

what dance is this

where Love leads the one

back to still waters

in the eyes of the missionary,

a prayer, a nation

a son, a friend

a desire, an ache

what collage is this

that speaks of the missionary’s

beating, bloody heart

years of a yes

stoked by the hands of the flaming Spirit

what stories

do your eyes tell
