God Is LOVE: a word by Jessica O.

When you think about who God is, what comes to mind? I often would think about characteristic and adjectives of Him. But what you do, and who you are, are two different things. 

I always knew that He loves, but something shifted inside me when I began to look at the four elements mentioned in the Bible that make up who the Father IS. The four things that are His very essence are Fire, Light, Spirit and Love. But above all, Love, which is mentioned two times.  

As I really dug into the fact that He is Love, I was overwhelmed with the power of what Love really is, and the immensity of it. He is in all things, and all things are in Him, and He is Love. Let that sink in. My mind gets blown every time. Love is how all of creation sprang forth because Love creates, births, nurtures, grows, and love never ceases. 

I realized there were so many things I misunderstood, and how I related to the Father was warped, because I was looking through the wrong lens. It was a lens of judgment first, and then love. This resulted in an ingrained fear I was not aware of until one day, when I was wrestling with something. He said to me, “perfect love casts out fear. So, why are you afraid? Where there is fear that is not me. I am Love.” As I let Him strip distorted doctrine and misunderstanding, I was left with the simple truth, that every fiber of His being and all He does, thinks, and creates is Love, and I could trust and rest in that, no matter what!
